Gaseous extinguishing systems offer extra peace of mind where buildings contain valuable equipment as computers or data storage. Should a fire be detected, then gas is emitted into the room extinguishing the fire, causing minimum damage to the contents of the room. The range of gaseous extinguishing systems J&J services provide include ARGONITE, FM200 and CARBON DIOXIDE.

Halon 1301 and Halon 1211(BCF) are ozone depleting gases which were phased out of production at the end of 1993 under the Montreal Protocol.
The European Union has now proposed a new more far-reaching regulation which has significant implications for Halon systems owners.

It is proposed that from 31st December 2003. it will be illegal for uses of Halon systems to recharge systems that leak or discharge. This 'use' ban could leave vulnerable areas unprotected when systems are unable to be filled.

It is also proposed that as of 31st December 2003, all Halon systems are to be de-commissioned.
At this time these are only proposals and the regulation has not yet become a requirement. However is considered unlikely that the proposed Halon ban will be relaxed and it is expected that it will become a legal requirement this year.

The proposals in the new regulation state that ALL Halon removed from systems will have to be properly disposed of in a controlled manner by an approved company.
J & J Services can ensure that all the statutory obligations are fulfilled under the proposed regulations ensuring that any Halon is disposed properly as we are registered members of SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) authorised to store and dispose of Halon.

There is no simple drop in replacement for Halon. However, there are a number of viable and cost effective alternatives to Halon which J & J Services supply and install.

J & J Services are not tied to any one Extinguishing product and can therefore recommend the best product to suit your application.
